The country is situated in 44o and 52o of east longitude, 38o and 42o of north latitude, Baku is situated in 40o parallel.   State borders in the south with Iran 765 km and Turkey in the south 15 km , Russia in the north 390 km, Georgia in the north- west 480 km, Armenia in the west 1007 km.
   
The distance from Baku to North Pole is 5550 km, to equator is 4440 km The length of widest area of the Azerbaijan section of Caspian sea is 456 km

-its area 400000 km 2, depth -1025m. 		  The highest peak is

Political system

State Leader: President.

The president is selected by secret vote every five years. On 15 October 2003 Ilham Haydar Aliyev was selected as The President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, received the vote of 1 860 346 persons or out of 76.84% of voters, participated in the voiting.

The Legislative Authority of the Azerbaijan Republic is realized by the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Milli Mejlis). The National Assembly of the Azerbaijan Republic consists of 125 deputies. Has been conducted on November 6, 2005 the third call for election to the National Assembly. About 2000 candidates were joined on election.
